President Tatar: UK can no longer ignore realities of Cyprus

President Ersin Tatar has said that the UK can no longer ignore the realities of Cyprus.

During his talks in the framework of his visit to the UK, President Tatar stated that the UK, as a guarantor country, is well aware of the realities in Cyprus and said that it is now necessary for the UK to respond to Turkish Cypriot demands for direct flights and other expectations of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Speaking during a TV interview in London, Tatar recounted the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people and highlighted the need for the guarantor country, the UK, to review its policy on Cyprus.

Tatar, who pointed out that the UK was well aware of the realities of Cyprus, said that it was now necessary for the UK to respond to Turkish Cypriot demands for direct flights and other expectations of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Tatar, explaining the history of Cyprus in the program, indicated that the UK as a guarantor country should treat both sides equally.

Noting that the greatest fortune of the Turkish Cypriot people was the Republic of Türkiye, Tatar said that Ankara which stood by the Turkish Cypriot people in every field, ensured peace and security on the island.

The president added that the UK can no longer ignore the realities of Cyprus.

Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots will never abandon Türkiye’s active and effective guarantees, Tatar said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) which was celebrating its 40th anniversary of establishment was a Turkic state in the Eastern Mediterranean.

He said that the recent events in Gaza further revealed the importance and need for Türkiye’s guarantees.

Indicating that cooperation could be achieved between the two sides in Cyprus in every field, especially in energy, Tatar said that a solution based on two states was the fairest, most sustainable, and best option.
