President Ersin Tatar continues to meet with representatives and members of Civil Society, NGOs and other public organisations in the country.

On Monday, Tatar came together with the Executive Board of the Gazimağusa District’s Muhtar’s Union within the framework of his People’s Council meetings.

“No power can prevent me from defending the rights and interests of my people,” said Tatar during the meeting which focused on the issues faced by the muhtkars and the Cyprus Problem.

President Ersin Tatar on Monday received the board of the Gazimağusa District’s Muhktar’s Union as part of his 11th round of meetings held by the People’s Council.

Speaking during the meeting, President Ersin Tatar stated that muhktars were a vital component of local administrations. Evaluating the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, the President pointed out that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo’s armament and tension-creating activities were constantly escalating.

Tatar also stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side was in favour of a fair, permanent and sustainable agreement in Cyprus.

“The way to do this is not through a federal agreement that aims to abolish Türkiye’s guarantees, remove Turkish troops from Cyprus, and reduce the Turkish Cypriot people into a minority but through a solution based on the existence of two equal sovereign states, supported by motherland Türkiye. This solution is the only solution that will benefit Cyprus and the region. We are as sovereign as the Greek Cypriots are in Cyprus and we have the same rights as they do. We will not give up our state and sovereignty” he said.

Tatar also gave information about his latest visit to London and his contacts there. Noting that the menacing action organized by Greek-Greek Cypriot youth was not only directed against him, but also targeted the Turkish Cypriot people, the President said “such actions cannot prevent me from protecting the rights and interests of my country and my people.”
