Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with Turkish Vice-President Cevdet Yılmaz in Ankara.

During the meeting, the progress of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol, especially the energy issue and other agenda items between the two countries were discussed.

Making an assessment of his contacts to the BRT after his meeting at the Presidential Complex, Prime Minister Üstel stated that they had a useful meeting with the Turkish Vice President.

Explaining that 5 months ago they had carried out a similar meeting and had signed a preliminary protocol for the transfer of energy from Türkiye to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Üstel said that within the framework of this protocol, they had anticipated that the feasibility studies will be completed within the year.

Noting that the Turkish Vice President and the technical teams came together to discuss when this work would be completed, Üstel said that Yılmaz gave the necessary instructions to eliminate and accelerate the energy shortage in the country.

“We have made preparations and initiated studies for the reinforcement of mobile power plants and for the arrival of a permanent power plant at the Teknecik Power Plant in order to eliminate the energy shortage that has arisen until we receive energy via cable from Türkiye” said Üstel.

He also said that preparations are being made to accelerate the infrastructure works and said, “The 500-bed hospital to be built in Lefkoşa within the framework of the Financial Economic Cooperation Protocol signed between the two countries will be put out to tender again in a very short time. After the tender, we will lay the foundation in 2024”.

Üstel said that after doing all the work they agreed on what needs to be done for the country and the economy within the framework of the protocol.

Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, also posted about the meeting via his social media account.

In his post, Yılmaz said, “During our meeting, we evaluated the progress of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol, especially energy, and other issues on our agenda. I would like to thank Mr. Üstel for his kind visit.”
