A reception was held on Wednesday evening to mark the TRNC Police Organisation’s 59th anniversary of establishment
The reception, held at the Police General Directorate (PGD) Headquarters in Lefkoşa was attended by President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, Chief Justice Narin F. Şefik, former President M.A. Talat, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, The Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu, Deputy Commander Brigadier General Kadir Bayraklı, several ministers, mayors, and other invitees.
Police Chief Kasım Kuni, in his speech during the evening, emphasized that the police force continued to carry out its duties with determination and dedication for the public’s safety and security.
Kuni said that the organization continued to upgrade its equipment and technology as well as its capabilities.
He expressed his belief that with the support of the state, the TRNC police force will become even stronger.
The police chief also emphasized the need to pass laws on narcotics and organized crime that are pending approval in parliament.
He also mentioned the urgent need for a law concerning cybercrimes, as the lack of such a law hampers the police’s effectiveness.
Kuni paid tribute to the police officers who have passed away and the martyrs since the establishment of the police organization, while wishing a healthy and happy retirement to those who have retired or will retire.
Also delivering a speech, President Ersin Tatar mentioned the sadness caused by the loss of tens of thousands of lives, including the “Champion Angels” team, in the February 6 earthquake disaster in Türkiye.
Tatar highlighted that despite the challenges faced and shortage of police officers to meet the country’s growing population, the police force continues to be the guardian of peace and public order in the country.
He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that well-educated and successful young people are being trained in the new police academy.
Tatar stated that the completion of the police force’s needs with state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and resources will carry the Turkish Cypriots into a much safer future.
He also added that the TRNC police force is now at a level where it can collaborate with Interpol.
The President emphasized the importance of legal regulations, inspections, and measures in preventing traffic accidents.
He extended his sympathy and condolences to the grieving families who lost their loved ones in traffic accidents.
Tatar stressed the importance of remembering all deceased and retired police officers with a sense of gratitude.
He wished peace and good health to all retiring police officers and expressed his gratitude to all active police personnel.
Following the speeches, plaques were distributed to retired members of the police force, including fire-fighters.
A multimedia presentation and a musical performance followed thereafter.
