In line with the 1st of August Communal Resistance Day a reception was held in the Turkish capital Ankara.

Speaking at the reception, Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler said Cyprus is a national issue for Türkiye.

“For this reason, it is one of the most important priorities of our country to resolve the Cyprus issue as soon as possible in a way that will guarantee the legitimate interests and security of the Turkish Cypriot people” said Güler.

The Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Commander of Land Forces General, who was also appointed as the Chief of General Staff Musa Avsever, Commander of Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu and the Commander of Air Forces General Atilla Gülan also attended the reception.

Speaking at the reception, Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler reiterated that Cyprus is a national issue for Türkiye and of utmost importance and therefore it needed to be resolved as soon as possible in a way that would guarantee the legitimate interests and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Noting that outdated solution attempts did not contribute to the solution process and should be left behind, Güler said “Our wish is to avoid unilateral steps that ignore the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people on the island, to define the historical and current realities correctly in this respect, to stay away from actions and discourses aimed at increasing tension in the region, and to show a strong will for a peaceful, equal and fair solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of international law”.

“It should be known that the confirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of our Cypriot brothers and sisters, which is their vested rights is indispensable for us. We expect our interlocutors to act in a manner that respects the rights of the Turkish Cypriots and Türkiye arising from international law” said Güler and invited the international community to support a just and lasting solution in Cyprus.

He called on the international community to stop supporting claims of only one side of the island and to approach the Cyprus issue in a reasonable and logical manner.

Reiterating his call for a just and lasting solution, Güler said that they will continue their efforts for Cyprus and the Mediterranian where peace, stability and cooperation prevail.

“We are fully committed both to build a future where our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters live in security, peace and prosperity and to protect Türkiye’s rights and interests in the Mediterranean” he said.

Güler stated that with Türkiye’s determined stance, the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriots can look to the future with more confidence adding that they are taking firm steps towards a strong future.

He stated that the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command is the guarantee of peace and security on the island.
