Restoration of the walled city of Lefkoşa has begun

The restoration of the historic walled city of Lefkoşa has begun.

President Ersin Tatar visited the region and examined the restoration work on site and received information from the authorities.

President Ersin Tatar inspected the work initiated for the restoration of the damaged walled city of Lefkoşa.

He received information from the authorities regarding the work to be carried out and stated that he was very impressed by the technical knowledge of both the company that received the tender and the United Nations Development Program personnel who undertook the execution of the project.

Tatar said he believes that the work to be carried out will be successfully completed.

“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is home to very important monuments in terms of cultural heritage. These works are also part of the world heritage. I attach great importance and support the restoration as well as the maintenance of Cultural Heritage monuments. I congratulate the Bilateral Cultural Heritage Technical Committee and all those who have contributed to this goal” said Tatar.

The restoration work, under the auspices of the Bilateral Cultural Heritage Technical Committee costing a total of 200 thousand Euros, is expected to be completed in March 2024.
