Prime Minister Ersan Saner paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Mustafa Şentop on Wednesday as part of his contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara.
Speaking during the visit, the Turkish parliamentary Speaker said that Turkey will continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Touching upon the unjust embargoes imposed on the TRNC, Şentop said that importance of voicing the just cause of the Turkish Cypriots and making the TRNC more visible in the eyes of the international community was becoming even more important at the parliamentary level.
“It is with this view that we are voicing the Cyprus cause at all the parliamentary assemblies which we are members of,” he added.
Şentop pointed out that there are two separate peoples, states and democracies in Cyprus and that a settlement can only be possible on the basis of two-states with sovereign equality.
Prime Minister Ersan Saner for his part said that the Turkish Cypriot people derived strength from motherland Turkey.
“Turkey has always supported us in voicing our just cause and of raising the standards of the Turkish Cypriot people. I would like to express my gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish nation for the support motherland Turkey has been giving us since 1974,” he said.
Following their meeting, Prime Minister Ersan Saner watched the Turkish parliament in session and hailed the general assembly.
