A thousand saplings were planted at the Kalkanlı Forest on Wednesday in memory of those who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye.
The event was organised in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa.
Speaking at the event held under the slogan, “A sapling for every life”, the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports TRNC Coordinator Mithat Tekçam said that the earthquake disaster had affected both Türkiye and the TRNC.
He said that the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa in collaboration with the local authorities were trying to provide for the needs of earthquake victims who are currently staying in the TRNC.
Tekçam said that they hoped that the saplings they planted will help the Kalkanlı forest which was destroyed in a fire in 2020 recover.
