A comprehensive Science Centre has been brought to the capital Lefkoşa.

Science Lefkoşa, created with the contributions of the Republic of Türkiye, was opened with a ceremony on Tuesday.

In the speeches made at the ceremony, it was stated that a new door has been opened to young people in the Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus with the new facilities.

The opening ceremony of Science Lefkoşa, which was realized with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Turkish Ministry of National Education, the Development and Economic Cooperation Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Lefkoşa and the Turkish Technology Team, was held on Tuesday.

President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, Turkish Technology Team Chairman of the Board of Trustees Selçuk Bayraktar and other officials and students attended the opening ceremony that was realized in the Lefkoşa Arabahmet Neighbourhood.

Delivering the first speech at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cyprus Science and Intelligence Foundation Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tümer said that the mathematics, astronomy and space sciences, design, agriculture, natural sciences, entrepreneurship and try-and-do workshops in the centre will contribute separately and will open the horizons of young people.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Technology Team Selçuk Bayraktar for his part said, “This journey, which started with Teknofest, has grown like an avalanche”.

“Today, we are together with you to open the doors of these studies to our young people in North Cyprus” he said and explained that Science Lefkoşa will provide training to young people in a wide range of fields.

He also expressed his belief that those who will be trained at the Centre, will pioneer innovations that will shape the future of Türkiye, the TRNC and the world.

Noting that he believes that Science Lefkoşa will be a centre where studies that will contribute to peace and brotherhood around the world will be carried out, Bayraktar announced that they aim to organize Teknofest in the TRNC in the near future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and stated that Erdoğan attaches great importance to science and technology.

“With Science Lefkoşa, a vision is opening for the youth of the TRNC. An incredible vision has been revealed with these works and workshops. I sincerely believe that the young people here will contribute to the development of their country by being moulded with science and technology” said Bak.

President Ersin Tatar for his part sent a message to the Greek Cypriot administration by saying “no one can block the path of these young people, our young people are worthy of everything”.

Pointing out that great injustices have been done to the Turkish Cypriot people, Tatar said that all kinds of attempts have been made to close the new windows opened in front of the Turkish Cypriot people.

He said that such developments gave hope to the young people in the TRNC, which is located in a critical region.

“If the Turkish Cypriot people have been able to bring their state to this point despite all the pressures, you can see that there is the youth here, there is a struggle, there is love, there is success and there is courage to look to the future with hope” said Tatar.

He concluded his speech by saying “The Turkish Cypriot youth, who are an inseparable part of the great nation, were also at Teknofest and we are waiting for Teknofest to be held here as well. I hope that our young people will be able to see their future in Teknofest”.
