A reception was held in the garden of the Security Forces Command headquarters in Boğaz to mark the anniversary of its establishment.
Speaking at the reception, the Commander of the Security Forces Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu said that the Security Forces Command with all of its power will continue to protect the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the integrity of the state and the sacred homeland.
The Security Forces Command hosted a reception to mark the 47th anniversary of its establishment, the 65th anniversary of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and the 452nd anniversary of the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottomans.
Prior to the reception the inauguration of the busts of 9 flag bearers who served in the Turkish Resistance Organization was realized.
During the reception medals were also presented to 11 mujahids (fighters).
Delivering a short speech at the reception, the Commander of the Security Forces Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu pointed out that the 1st of August was a very important date in terms of the existence of the Turkish Cypriots.
Noting that the peaceful and secure environment created with the arrival of the Ottoman Empire on the island 452 years ago ended with its departure in 1878, he said that the Turkish Cypriots lived through many dark days until 1974.
He said that during these times the Greek Cypriots tried to annihilate the Turkish Cypriot people, but that the Turkish Cypriots continued their struggle for existence.
Stating that on the 1st of August, 1958, the TMT had been established and the resistance had become organized, Topaloğlu said that with the Turkish Peace Operation on July 20, 1974, peace, tranquillity and stability that had been longed for many years on the island has been re-established.
Reminding that the TMT handed over its duty to the Security Forces Command on August 1, 1976, Major General Topaloğlu emphasized that the Security Forces Command is determined to ensure that people live in security and peace in the TRNC.
“The Security Forces Command will continue to protect the existence of the TRNC, the integrity of the state and the sacred homeland. We believe in the saying ‘If we die we are martyrs if we live we are veterans’. Our glorious flags will continue to remain in the skies forever” said Topaloğlu.
