The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) Mustafa Şentop said that that an important milestone in the just and legitimate cause of the Turkish Cypriot people will be achieved once the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s observer status at the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries (TÜRKPA) is approved.

Şentop also said that the Turkic world should demonstrate through concrete action that the inhumane embargoes and isolation Turkish Cypriots have been subjected to for decades was unacceptable.

The Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Mustafa Şentop met with his Azeri and Kazakh counterparts who are in Türkiye to attend the 12th meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries (TÜRKPA).

Speaking during the meetings, Şentop raised the issue of the TRNC’s observer status to TÜRKPA.

During his meeting with the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly Sabiha Gafarova, the Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Mustafa Şentop thanked Baku for the support it gave for the acceptance of the TRNC’s observer status at the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS).

“An important milestone in the just and legitimate cause of the Turkish Cypriot people will be achieved once the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s observer status at the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries (TÜRKPA) is accepted just as it was by the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS),” he said.

Expressing similar views with his meeting with the Speaker of Kazakhstan’s Parliamentary Speaker Yerlan Koshanov, Şentop said that the TRNC’s absence from TÜRKPA would have been a great loss.

He added that the Turkic world should demonstrate through concrete action that the inhumane embargoes and isolation Turkish Cypriots have been subjected to for decades was unacceptable.
