The newly opened Ercan Airport has seen a remarkable increase in both passenger and flight numbers during the first eight months of 2024, according to T&T Airport Management.

Compared to the same period in 2023, passenger traffic rose by 24.7%, while the number of flights increased by 14.28%.

According to the statement, in 2023, the old Ercan Airport handled 2,457,097 passengers between January and August.

However, with the opening of the new Ercan Airport, this number surged to 3,048,615 passengers in the same period of 2024.

Similarly, 16,892 flights used the old airport in the first eight months of 2023, while the new facility recorded 19,305 take-offs and landings during the same timeframe in 2024.

The introduction of a new 3,000-meter runway and additional boarding bridges has also led to an increase in the number of larger aircraft using the airport.

This substantial growth reflects the improved infrastructure and capabilities of the new Ercan Airport, positioning it as a key hub for increased air traffic in the region.
