The Güzelyurt New Social Housing Project has officially begun with a groundbreaking ceremony, aiming to address housing needs and provide affordable homeownership for low-income citizens.

The project will include 2+1 and 3+1 apartment units, allowing citizens to purchase homes for £35,000 under favorable conditions.

At the ceremony, Cafer Gürcafer, President of the Cyprus Turkish Contractors Association, emphasized that the foundation for a sustainable housing solution was being laid.

He highlighted the formation of a cooperative that aims to build 5,000 to 10,000 homes across the island.

Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar praised the government’s commitment, stressing that while social housing had been debated for years, it is now becoming a reality.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel underscored the project’s significance, noting that it is the first social housing initiative in Güzelyurt in 35 years. He credited Türkiye’s support through recently signed economic and financial cooperation agreements, which have secured ₺21bn for infrastructure and development projects.

Üstel also announced that the new Güzelyurt Hospital will be inaugurated by November 15.

President Ersin Tatar reaffirmed the importance of Güzelyurt’s development within the TRNC’s long-term vision, highlighting its agricultural and economic potential.

He reiterated that a two-state solution remains the only viable path for Cyprus and stressed that continued investments in housing, infrastructure, and economic stability will strengthen the TRNC’s future.
