A Solidarity March was organised in Gazimağusa by the Social Struggle Platform within the scope of the events to mark the 25th of November, the Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Before the march began, on behalf of the Social Struggle Platform, Social Existence Association Board Member Jasmin Özlem Bayram read out a statement to the press.
She stated that the struggle for women’s right to life, safety and dignity has become more critical with each passing day and emphasized that these can be prevented.
She noted that urgent steps should be taken to ensure the safety of women and stated that violence against women is not only a problem of an individual or a family, but a common problem of the whole society.
Demanding that the Violence Prevention and Counselling Centres be included in the TOCED law be put into effect, Bayram pointed out that violence against women deeply affects not only women but also children.
After the statement was read, women marched to Namık Kemal Square carrying various banners and shouting slogans.
