The Cyprus Turkish Solidarity Platform has completed 500 container houses for the Champion Angels village, which it initiated in İskenderun following the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye.

The opening ceremony is planned to take place at the end of August or the beginning of September.

Coordinator of the Platform, Erçin Tekakpınar, said on Thursday that the TRNC had made a historic contribution to strengthen ties between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as a result of the spirit of solidarity and unity shown during the project undertaken by 37-non-governmental organisations.

Speaking to BRT, Tekakpınar provided information on the latest developments regarding the Champion Angels Village, currently under construction in İskenderun.

The platform, as part of its contributions to helping Türkiye recover from the devastating earthquake which struck the country on February 6 this year, undertook the task of constructing 490 container homes for a camp in İskenderun built to honour the memory of the Gazimağusa Türk Maarif College’s volleyball team, also known as the champion angels, who perished in the earthquake.

Tekakpınar mentioned that they are currently constructing 17 more houses in the TRNC, expressing that they have fulfilled the responsibility of the platform and together they have managed to build more than 500 houses.

Stating that they have carried out the project with donations totalling ₺44m so far, Tekakpınar noted that they continue to receive strong and positive support for the platform to continue serving the country.

He added that in line with incoming requests, they will build new classrooms to replace those intended to be demolished at Yeni Erenköy High School and are also working on meeting other needs.
