President Ersin Tatar has congratulated the successful Turkish Cypriot athletes and teams on their achievements.

“There can be no legitimate or moral justification for trying to imprison young Turkish Cypriots with unjust restrictions,” Tatar stressed as he drew attention to the unjust embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.

“The success of Şht. Turgut Secondary School’s athletic team who won the Turkish Secondary School Championship, the Near East College Boys’ Basketball Team which qualified for the Turkish inter-school basketball finals, the achievements of our Taekwondo and Kempo athletes from the TRNC, along with the successes of the Hala Sultan College Boys’ Handball Team and Levent College Girls’ Basketball Team in Türkiye and Azerbaijan, as well as achievements in dance, bodybuilding, and many other sports disciplines have brought great pride to all of us,” the president said in his statement.

He added that achievements of these athletes and players, despite the unjust and inhumane sports embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriot youth, are the greatest proof of what the Turkish Cypriots are capable of achieving if provided with opportunities,” Tatar added.

“The justified pride created by the achievements of our children, despite various restrictions, is also a strong message to the international community,” he noted.

Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for the removal of unjust embargoes and ending of their international isolation will continue.

“Our struggle against these outdated restrictions will continue with even greater determination, and no one should doubt it, especially when witnessing such remarkable achievements. I sincerely congratulate all our athletes, their families, and their coaches, and I wish them continued success” the president added.
