The Statistics Institute announced a year-end population projection of 476,214 for 2023.

In 2022, this figure was reported as 462,747.

Based on the latest data, the Statistics Institute has revised the new population projection for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Accordingly, the projected population for the end of 2023 is announced as 476,214, comprising 257,789 men and 218,425 women.

The statement noted that this projection was produced based on assumptions derived from the results of the 2011 Housing and Population Census, considering changes in migration data obtained from the registration systems.

Noting that the country’s population projection has been improved to meet national and international needs, the statement added that this study was conducted by a working group that included expert participants from the Turkish Statistical Institute.

The statement shared the “TRNC Year-End Population Projections for 2019-2023” as follows:

  • In 2019: 420,556 (227,056 men and 193,500 women)
  • In 2020: 419,810 (225,306 men and 194,504 women)
  • In 2021: 448,268 (242,381 men and 205,887 women)
  • In 2022: 462,747 (250,421 men and 212,326 women)
  • In 2023: 476,214 (257,789 men and 218,425 women)

It was noted that the revised projections would be used in future calculations published by the institute.

The statement also indicated that with the full establishment of the Address-Based Population Registration System currently underway, updated information on the size and characteristics of the population by locality will be obtained.

This will allow for more detailed population projections based on these results.

The Statistics Institute stressed that population projections, one of its most significant projects, play a crucial role in shaping future policies.
