Date Added: 14 February 2024

Intense weather conditions wreaked havoc on both sides of the island last night.

Storms and strong winds caused a heap of problems and damages, leading to power outages, road closures and flooding both in Bostancı and Limassol in South Cyprus.

The Bostancı stream on Tuesday night overflowed its banks following heavy rain along the Troodos mountain range, flooding several homes and roads.

Water levels returned to normal later in the day following action taken  by the state services to remove any obstacles that could obstruct the flow of water.

A tornado struck the Yermasogeia area in South Cyprus, causing a crane to fall, trees to be uprooted, and damage to houses.

Many areas in the Limassol district were without electricity due to damages caused by the tornado to the network, uprooting electricty poles, many cut lines, and transformers.

Various objects that swept onto the Limassol-Lefkoşa highway near Yermasogeia in both directions also led to the a disruption in traffic.

Meanwhile, the met office has warned that rainy and windy conditions are expected to continue over the next few days.
