The new commander of the Turkish Armed Forces has been announced.
General Metin Gürak was appointed Türkiye’s new Chief of General Staff amid a flurry of decisions announced after Thursday’s Supreme Military Council meeting.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Complex under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During the meeting, the new commander of the Turkish Armed Forces was determined.
General Metin Gürak was appointed as the Chief of General Staff after Yaşar Güler became the Minister of National Defense.
Gürak was serving as the Commander of the 2nd Army.
Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, deputy chief of General Staff, will be new Land Forces Commander, replacing Musa Avsever, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
Gen. Ziya Cemal Kadioglu was appointed the new Air Forces commander following the retirement of Atilla Gulan.
Security Forces Commander Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu was also promoted to Lieutenant General.
A total of 32 generals and admirals are being promoted to the next ranks and 63 colonels to general or admiral effective on August 30th.
