Tatar and Töre convey condolences to GC side

President Ersin Tatar on Friday expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to families of the two Greek Cypriot students who were killed in the tragic train crash in Northern Greece.

Tatar conveyed his condolences to the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides over the phone.

Christodoulides who pointed out that the region had been rocked with tragic incidents recently thanked Tatar for expressing his sympathies.

Earlier on Friday, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives following the head-on train crash in Northern Greece.

“I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and to the Greek Nation. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to the injured.” Töre said.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Thursday had also issued a similar message on social media expressing his deepest sympathises and condolences to the people of Greece and the Greek government.

At least 57 people were killed when a Greek passenger train collided head-on with a freight train late on Tuesday, derailing carriages which then burst into flames in the country’s deadliest rail crash in living memory.

Many of the victims were thought to be university students returning home after a long holiday weekend.

The bodies of the two missing Greek Cypriots students aboard the train were identified on Friday morning.

The death toll is expected to rise further.
