President Ersin Tatar on Monday spoke with the Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ via phone, expressing his condolences to the Turkish nation and wishing the survivors a speedy recovery.
He also received information about an investigation launched on the İsias Hotel where 35 members of a 39 member squad from the Gazimağusa Türk Maarif College volleyball team perished when the building collapsed.
During their conversation, Tatar said that the people of Türkiye and the TRNC were experiencing great pain and loss over those who died in the collapsed hotel building.
Expressing his gratitude for the rescue and recovery activities carried out at the İsias Hotel and the investigation launched, President Tatar once again said that he will be following developments closely.
Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ for his part reassured the president that the matter will be investigated and that all necessary action will be taken.
Questions were raised about the condition of the hotel building which collapsed with claims that there were serious building code violations at the hotel.
