President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday congratulated his Azerbaijan counterpart Ilham Aliyev on the success of his New Azerbaijan Party in the parliamentary elections and expressed his confidence that cooperation under the Azerbaijan-TRNC Friendship Group would continue successfully.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev thanked President Tatar and expressed his support for the development of the TRNC’s relations within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the victory of his New Azerbaijan Party in the parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan.

Noting that the elections were conducted in a free and democratic environment, reflecting the will of the Azerbaijani people, the President expressed his confidence that cooperation under the Azerbaijan-TRNC Friendship Group would continue successfully with the new parliament.

Recalling his satisfaction with the invitation extended to the TRNC to the summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Shusha, Tatar thanked Aliyev for his support and the invitation to strengthen the TRNC’s relations with the OTS.

Underlining the significance of the elections taking place in the Karabakh territories, liberated after 30 years of occupation, President Tatar said: “In Azerbaijan, the New Azerbaijan Party, led by you, my dear friend, emerged as the winner of the general elections conducted in a democratic environment. I wholeheartedly congratulate you on these election results, which are a new indication of the strong support the Azerbaijani people are giving you. The fact that these elections were held throughout all of Azerbaijan, including the Karabakh territories liberated after 30 years of occupation, also holds historic importance. On this occasion, I once again congratulate Your Excellency on your election victory and convey the love and greetings of the Turkish Cypriot people to the brotherly Azerbaijani people.”

During his phone conversation with Aliyev, President Tatar also mentioned that the TRNC U-12 football team was in Azerbaijan to participate in a tournament and thanked Aliyev for providing this opportunity to the Cyprus Turkish Football Association.

According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Presidency, Aliyev thanked Tatar for his congratulations and expressed his support for the development of the TRNC’s relations within the framework of the OTS.
