President Ersin Tatar attended the opening of the 22nd International Turkic World Social Sciences Congress in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), held on the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.
Speaking at the congress hosted by Final University, the President underlined the importance of the ideas presented and the presentations made at these congresses in fostering unity and cooperation within the Turkic World.
Reminding that through the initiatives of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the TRNC became an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States in 2022, Tatar stressed the significance of Turkish President Erdoğan and Azerbaijan’s President İlham Aliyev expressing their commitment to promoting the TRNC’s recognition.
Stating that efforts were ongoing for the TRNC to become a full member of the organization, he noted that the TRNC was represented in high-level meetings and conferences, underlining the importance of participating under the TRNC’s flag and constitutional name.
Stressing that the Turkish Cypriots were an inseparable part of the Turkic World, Tatar expressed the need to strengthen ties and relations.
Expressing that the TRNC, as an independent Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean, served as a representative of the Turkic World, the President highlighted Cyprus’ geopolitical and strategic significance.
Tatar also expressed the need to work in alignment with the shared interests and benefits of the greater Turkish Nation.
Referring to the importance of language in facilitating communication within the Turkic World, he said that efforts toward a common alphabet had been completed.
President Tatar also stressed the need for universities to focus on studies related to the Turkic World and to collaborate in their research efforts.
