President Ersin Tatar made a statement regarding the speech of the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Christodoulides at the UN General Assembly.

President Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot side will not engage in fruitless processes aimed at contributing to the comfort of the Greek Cypriots, that the federation has been exhausted as a compromise model and said, “This game, which is one of the biggest reasons why the Turkish Cypriot people cannot access their basic human rights, has been spoiled”.

Evaluating the speech delivered by the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration at the UN, President Tatar said “As the Turkish Cypriot side, while continuing our struggle for the confirmation of our inherent rights, we will continue to work on areas of cooperation that will benefit both sides.”

“The Greek Cypriot leader could not digest the fact that the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, defended our rights and called for the recognition of our state in his speech at the 79th UN General Assembly, where he was our voice. I therefore return the Greek Cypriot leader’s words he has spoken on this issue,” said Tatar.

“My message to the Greek Cypriot leader is clear. We, as the Turkish Cypriot side, will not enter into fruitless processes to contribute to the comfort of the Greek Cypriots. For us, federation has been exhausted as a compromise model. This game, which is one of the biggest reasons why the Turkish Cypriot people cannot access basic human rights, has been spoiled” said Tatar.

In his written statement, the president noted that the Greek Cypriot leader made a speech at the UN General Assembly in which he reflected their familiar primitive politics with the status they have been usurping for 61 years.

“Due to this mentality of the Greek Cypriot administration, the 1960 Partnership Republic lasted only 3 years, Turkish Cypriots were expelled from the administration at gunpoint, and the most crucial articles of the Constitution regarding partnership were unilaterally amended in violation of the Constitution.

It is precisely because of this understanding that the Cyprus problem has not resulted in a compromise to date” said Tatar.

He said that the Greek Cypriot leadership, which refuses to share governance and prosperity under any circumstances, has been usurping both sovereignty and status for 61 years, while at the same time trying to mislead the international community at every opportunity with a hypocritical understanding.

The president’s statement also highlights the Greek Cypriot leader’s insulting remarks towards Türkiye and the Turkish Cypriot people and mentions that the Greek Cypriot leader’s actions violate the human rights of the Turkish Cypriots through isolation policies.

He calls on the Greek Cypriot leader to examine their own history books that instil prejudice against Turks.

Tatar also refers to the Peace Operation carried out by Türkiye in 1974 using its right arising from international agreements, which brought peace not only to the Turkish Cypriots but to the entire island.

He emphasizes the importance of recognizing the inherent rights, sovereign equality, and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots to find a compromise on the Cyprus issue.
