President Ersin Tatar has reiterated that there is no going back from the current policy in favour of a two-state solution in Cyprus based on sovereign equality.

Tatar word’s came at the promotion event of the book “The two-state vision in Cyprus,” prepared by Kerem Haser.

President Ersin Tatar on Monday said that there was no going back to the former policy in favour of a federal settlement in Cyprus.

“Our efforts to live in peace and security will continue. We shall strive for a better Cyprus,” Tatar said as he addressed guests at the book promotion held at the presidential palace.

Among those who attended the event were former Prime Minister and Parliamentary Speaker Hakkı Atun, expat associations, a group of university students and representatives of several civil society organisations.

Speaking at the event, President Ersin Tatar thanked everyone who contributed to the writing of the book and said that more volumes were to follow in the future.

“We hope that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will be recognised by the time we complete our term in office. The Cyprus issue is our cause. I strongly protest South Cyprus for pretending to be representing us,” he said.

The president also expressed his gratitude to motherland Türkiye for always supporting and standing by the Turkish Cypriot people.

He said that the water brought from Türkiye as well as the Maraş Initiative were two concrete examples of this support and solidarity.

Tatar also reminded how the international community had failed to keep its promises to the Turkish Cypriot people following the referendum on the 2004 UN-sponsored Annan Plan.

President Ersin Tatar also critisized the British government for failing to invite him to both the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation ceremony of her successor King Charles III.

“They are claiming that Cyprus is a Greek island but it is not. I believe that we should have good neighbourly relations with the Greek Cypriot side. We will never give up our demand for a two-state solution based on sovereign equality,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the President’s Special Representative Ergün Olgun said that the book reflected the Turkish Cypriot side’s vision regarding the Cyprus problem.

“I highly recommend that foreigners who do not know anything about the Cyprus Issue to read this book and to promote it in the UK,” he added.
