President Ersin Tatar said on Wednesday that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

(TRNC) was confidently moving towards the future as an independent, sovereign and free state.

He reiterated that a solution in Cyprus can only be achieved through cooperation between two sovereign and equal states.

Tatar who completed his contacts in Kyrgyzstan and moved on to Istanbul was speaking at a conference at the Istanbul Technical University.

Addressing the ceremony where he was awarded an honorary doctorate, President Tatar expressed the joy of witnessing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as the southernmost Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean, celebrating its 40th year and moving towards the future as an independent, sovereign, and free state with secure steps.

Highlighting the historical significance of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean, Tatar provided information about the events on the history of Cyprus and the Cyprus issue.

He mentioned ongoing efforts to find a fundamental solution to the electricity issue on both sides of the island by laying a double cable from Türkiye to Cyprus.

Tatar also recalled the Turkish Cypriot side’s proposal to South Cyprus to cooperate on the issue of renewable energy but pointed out that their proposals fell on deaf ears.

This attitude he added revealed the Greek Cypriot side’s hostile intentions towards the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriots as well as its desire to remove Türkiye from the island.

President Tatar said that a solution could be reached through cooperation between two separate sovereign and equal states in Cyprus under the new policy.

Acknowledging the complexity of the Cyprus issue, Tatar said that a settlement on the island was one that concerned the entire Turkic world as the TRNC is a window of the Turkic world to the Mediterranean, emphasizing its great value and sanctity.
