President Ersin Tatar took part in a meeting of mukhtars from the Gazimağusa region organised by the presidency.

Speaking during the meeting the president noted that in 2023 the country and especially the Gazimağusa area suffered great pain due to the earthquake in Türkiye and the Gazimağusa volleyball players now known as the Champion Angels losing their lives in the earthquake.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue the president reminded that he advocated a treaty based on the cooperation of two separate equal sovereign states with the full support of Türkiye and noted that the TRNC will continue to exist with its institutions, organizations, territorial integrity, democracy and services.

Referring to the events in Gaza, Tatar emphasized that the world has been a bystander to the killing of more than 20 thousand people, and for this reason, they will not give up on the continuation of Türkiye’s guarantorship and the continued presence of Turkish troops.

Noting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been calling for the recognition of the TRNC and the lifting of the embargoes and isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots at the UN General Assembly for the last two years, Tatar said, “The world knows that there are two separate peoples, authorities and states in Cyprus. We want a treaty based on the cooperation of two equal sovereign states in Cyprus.”

Stating that Türkiye is a centre in energy issues, President Tatar also stated that the importance and status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean has increased in terms of geopolitical and geostrategic developments.
