President Ersin Tatar met with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin, in London on Monday.

The meeting, which lasted approximately one hour, took place at the TRNC London Representative Office and was attended by the President’s Special Representative Güneş Onar.

Speaking after the meeting, President Tatar told the TAK news agency that the Turkish Cypriot side’s position on the Cyprus issue was clear. He thanked Holguin for her efforts to find common ground but pointed out that it had become clear there was no common ground between the parties.

Tatar noted that Holguin will present her report to the UN Secretary-General on July 10.

He remarked that since Holguin assumed her role as personal envoy, it has become evident that chances of achieving a common ground for the launch of new talks were further diminishing.

The president attributed the lack of progress in the Cyprus issue to the intransigent attitude of the Greek Cypriot leadership.

He criticized the Greek Cypriot authorities for orchestrating a campaign to deter investment in the construction sector in Northern Cyprus, using the judiciary to support this political agenda.

President Tatar conveyed these concerns to Holguin, highlighting that this issue is distressing for the Turkish Cypriot community.

He also reiterated that the Immovable Property Commission (IPC), recognized by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), is the proper address for property-related applications.
