President Ersin Tatar said that the new politics in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an agreement with the cooperation of two equal sovereign states and that the two-state ground has been further strengthened.

The President made the statement during the meeting he attended with Iskele District mukhtars.

President Ersin Tatar attended the meeting of Iskele district mukhtars organized by the Presidency in Bafra.

Speaking here President Tatar stated that a new era has started in Cyprus and that the solution on a federal basis, which would sever the ties between the Turkish Cypriots and Türkiye, dissipate them within the European Union and threaten their existence over time, has been abandoned.

Explaining that the new policy is an agreement with the cooperation of two equal sovereign states, President Tatar noted that the grounds for two-states have further strengthened and investments have been made in the country.

Explaining that the ground for two-states was further strengthened with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) becoming an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States, President Tatar said that with the support of Türkiye the opening of Maraş was made possible and this move has supported economic development.

He stated that the country has changed with the realization of infrastructure projects and that work is underway to bring electricity via cable.

“We are in the most beautiful region of the country,” said Tatar, noting that although there has been development in the infrastructure the environment must also be protected and necessary measures must be taken.

Explaining that he has always advocated for an agreement based on the realities in Cyprus, President Tatar noted that the statements of the Greek Cypriot side show that there will be no going back.

He also emphasized that Türkiye is the largest and strongest country in the region and that the geostrategic and geopolitical value of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Blue Homeland has increased after the agreement with Libya.

Explaining that the Turkish Cypriots were saved due to Türkiye being a guarantor country in Cyprus, Tatar said “We will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation and the 40th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. There has been peace and security in Cyprus for half a century.”

He said that what happened in Bosnia and Ukraine and what is happening in Palestine shows that if you are alone, no one will protect you.

“We have suffered a lot before. The United Nations and other countries just watched” said Tatar and added that the peace, tranquillity and security in Cyprus, is due to Türkiye’s military presence and guarantor status.

Touching upon investment being made to the country, Tatar said that investments have increased as the TRNC has become more accepted.

“An increase in investments and Türkiye’s support are important for development. The two-state policy and the Maraş policy strengthen the foundation of the state” said Tatar.
