President Ersin Tatar continues his contacts in New York.

President Ersin Tatar met with Ambassador Kubanıçbek Ömüraliyev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in New York on Thursday.

During the meeting held at the TRNC Representation Office, the President reminded that Turkish President Erdoğan, in his speech at the 79th UN General Assembly, referred to the Organization of Turkic States and stressed that the TRNC, as an observer member alongside Hungary, strengthened the organization.

“Our state needs to be officially accepted and recognized. As we continuously emphasize, if there is to be a fair, realistic, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, it must be based on the foundation of two states” Tatar said.

Pointing out that the last and final attempt for a federal solution collapsed in July 2017 in Crans-Montana, he said, “All of these show that the Greek Cypriot side does not want to share power and prosperity with the Turkish Cypriot people. The basis for a federal solution has been exhausted, and as President Erdoğan also mentioned, it is now completely invalid.”

“We will never accept demands to abolish Türkiye’s guarantor rights,” the President said and stressed that peace, prosperity, and security on the island were maintained thanks to the presence of Turkish troops.

“The TRNC has borders, its own Presidency, Parliament, and Judiciary. It is a sovereign and democratic state. Our state has its own police force, security forces, institutions, and government bodies. The Turkish Cypriots are a people with a distinct language, culture, and religion. Our state exists, and this is a fact. For this reason, we call on the international community and the Organization of Turkic States to assist the Turkish Cypriot people, to put an end to the injustices against our people, and to support the recognition of our state” President Tatar said.

Ambassador Ömüraliyev noted that the TRNC’s observer membership was established a year and 10 months ago, and said, “The TRNC is represented within the organization. We share the same history, language, and traditions. We will continue to provide this support.”
