Tatar receives delegation from NC Turkish Red Crescent

President Ersin Tatar emphasized the importance of enhancing the potential of the Turkish Red Crescent and the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent in any future event.

Tatar also stated that cooperation between the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent and the Red Cross on the Greek Cypriot side would be beneficial to both communities.

President Ersin Tatar met on Tuesday with a delegation of the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent led by Sezai Sezen.

Speaking during the visit, Tatar highlighted the significance of the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent as one of the country’s important institutions, stating that the Turkish Cypriot people, who faced challenging conditions and experienced great suffering in the 1960s, were well aware of the importance of the Turkish Red Crescent.

Tatar pointed out the Red Crescent’s consistent presence in natural disasters with its experience and personnel, emphasizing the importance of strengthening its institutional structure and enhancing its potential in any future event.

President Tatar noted that the internationally recognized Red Crescent operates in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and highlighted the mutual benefits of collaboration between the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent and the Red Cross on the Greek Cypriot side.

He expressed regret that the Greek Cypriot side, due to its refusal to recognize the TRNC, avoids collaborating with our institutions.

Tatar reminded that they proposed cooperation on various issues such as natural gas, energy, water, irregular migration, and mine clearance between the two sides but received no response. He reiterated their commitment to supporting cooperation between two states and institutions on the basis of sovereign equality.

The President of the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent, Sezai Sezen for his part provided President Tatar with information about the activities of the association and its updated regulations.

Sezen also mentioned that half of the country’s annual need for 18 thousand units of blood is met through voluntary blood donation campaigns organized by the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent.
