President Ersin Tatar on Thursday welcomed the Mayor of Anamur and the President of the Chamber of Commerce in a meeting that underscored the vital role of Anamur to the Turkish Cypriot community.
Highlighting the strategic significance of water resources flowing from Anamur to the TRNC, Tatar said, “We will recognize the value of the water coming from Anamur.”
Speaking during the visit, President Tatar praised the Anamur Water Supply Project, often hailed as the “Project of the Century,” which channels water from Türkiye’s Alaköprü Dam in Anamur to the TRNC. This initiative strengthens the bond between Türkiye and the TRNC, as both sides work together to deepen economic, commercial, and cultural relations.
Tatar also noted his close interest in Anamur Municipality’s services, expressing his hope for the TRNC to benefit from Anamur’s municipal experience. He emphasized the need to use water resources more efficiently, referring to the progress made in Türkiye as an example.
Highlighting opportunities for collaboration, Tatar underlined the importance of partnerships between trade and industry chambers, suggesting potential cooperation in agriculture and industry.
He further emphasized that tourism initiatives should flourish between Anamur and the TRNC. “We will remember the wealth that Anamur’s water brings and cherish its value,” he concluded.
