President Ersin Tatar criticized the Greek Cypriot administration for becoming a logistics base for Israel and some other countries.
Tatar said that South Cyprus jeopardizes the island where there has been peace for 50 years and called on the Greek Cypriots to “avoid policies that will create unnecessary risks that will jeopardize Cyprus”.
Making an evaluation to Anadolu Agency (AA) on the issue, President Ersin Tatar pointed out that the military mobility of some countries, especially the US and the UK, in South Cyprus increased after October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its attacks on Gaza.
Stating that the Greek Cypriot administration has made the South a military operation centre by making agreements with some Western countries, especially the US and the UK, Tatar said that the Greek Cypriots do not benefit from these initiatives towards the Middle East.
Reminding that they have repeatedly issued a warning regarding the increasing military activity in South Cyprus, Tatar stated that Cyprus has been targeted by some large organizations in the Middle East as a result of the historical mistakes made by the Greek Cypriot administration.
Underlining that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has always acted with Türkiye and has not allowed its territory to be used to support any massacres, Tatar stated that they fully agree with the statement of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that “Israel is using South Cyprus as a logistics base” and that they have similar concerns.
He also emphasized that peace prevailed in Cyprus as a result of the operation carried out by Türkiye in 1974.
“South Cyprus is endangering the island where there has been peace for 50 years. No one has the right to destroy the peace that has been uninterrupted for 50 years on this island. South Cyprus is making some historical mistakes to disrupt peace in the region with its actions and the events in the Middle East, failing to see the future and interests of its own people,” said Tatar.
