President Ersin Tatar emphasized that Turkish-Greek relations are a separate issue, while the Cyprus issue remains a national cause and maintains its seriousness.

The president was speaking on BRT on Friday morning.

Responding to questions on BRT’s morning news show, President Tatar mentioned that the Turkish Cypriot side remained committed to its two-state policy regarding the solution of the Cyprus issue and added that this policy was fully supported by Ankara.

He reminded that the negotiations with the Greek Cypriot side had failed to yield any results over the years.

Tatar however expressed his commitment to dialogue and cooperation in all areas through bilateral committees, but noted that there has been no reciprocal response from the Greek Cypriot side.

“The position on the Cyprus issue continues unchanged. In my opinion, the policy of two states has become solidified with the support of Türkiye. In the upcoming process, what is important for us is to strengthen the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC),” he said.

Addressing the global impact of recent developments and the significant wounds caused by the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye, President Tatar mentioned that the TRNC has reached a point where it can overcome all these challenges, and the economy has recovered fully to the pre-pandemic era.
