The leader of Türkiye’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli has undergone surgery to replace his heart valve, the party said in a statement on Feb. 6.

President Ersin Tatar has extended his well wishes to the veteran Turkish politician, whose party is the junior coalition partner in the Turkish government.

In a message shared on Friday, President Tatar stated: “I extend my best wishes to MHP leader Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, who has undergone a successful heart valve replacement surgery, and wish him a speedy recovery.”

According to a statement issued by his party, Bahçeli was admitted to the hospital on Monday for “planned tests and treatments.

Doctors detected degeneration in his heart valve, which was previously replaced a decade ago, and performed the procedure on Thursday.

“His medical condition is quite good and stable, he is resting in his room. He will return to his daily life after the hospitalization process is completed in a short time,” the statement read.
