The Greek Cypriot administration is trying to prevent tourists who visit South Cyprus from other countries and travel to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for a day trip…

Criticizing the Greek Cypriot side, President Ersin Tatar said, “The Greek Cypriot leadership is now targeting our tourism sector as the focus of their blockade policy aimed at collapsing our economy.”

He also called on the Greek Cypriot leader to abandon this primitive policy and take steps towards establishing new collaborations for the future.

In a written statement on Monday regarding the Greek Cypriot leadership’s hostile move targeting the tourism sector, President Ersin Tatar said, “The Greek Cypriot leadership has now focused its ‘blockade policy,’ aimed at crippling our economy, on our tourism sector. Accordingly, they are taking completely illegal steps to prevent the passage of people who have already made reservations, including EU citizens, from spending their holidays in our country. The Greek Cypriot administration is carrying out this policy by blackmailing the relevant tour operators” Tatar said in his statement.

He said that the situation once again revealed the true intentions of the Greek Cypriot leader and, consequently, the Greek Cypriot administration regarding the future of the island of Cyprus.

“The Greek Cypriot leadership continues its oppressive policy, which has violated the basic human rights of the Turkish Cypriot people for 61 years, and since January of this year, it has been trampling on international law in order to advance this policy” Tatar noted.

He pointed out that contact was made with international parties including the EU following consultations with sector representatives and tourism organizations last week, and a call was made for intervention against this hostile policy of the Greek Cypriot side.

“I call on the Greek Cypriot leadership to put an end to this outdated policy, which they have now expanded to include our tourism sector, continuing their blockade policy aimed at destroying property investments in our country and our universities, reminiscent of the period after 1963,” Tatar stated.

“What is most needed on the island of Cyprus today is the establishment of an environment of cooperation between the two sides. I invite the Greek Cypriot leader to abandon this primitive policy and take steps towards establishing new collaborations for the future” he said.
