President Ersin Tatar said on Thursday that despite all the injustices, the world now recognized the fact that there are two separate states in Cyprus.

He emphasized that the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots will never be relinquished.

Tatar was speaking in Istanbul where he attended a conference titled “The Perspective of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Türkiye’s 100 Years” and visited the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce.

During his Istanbul visit, President Tatar participated in the conference organized by the Eurasian Strategic Research Platform, addressing the “Perspective of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Türkiye’s 100 Years.”

He mentioned that the Cyprus issue is a matter for all people, highlighting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the United Nations strengthened the position of the Turkish Cypriots.

Tatar noted the increasing importance of the TRNC, emphasizing its strategic significance in the Eastern Mediterranean, blue homeland, and Türkiye’s security.

He mentioned that the water transported from Türkiye to the island through pipelines will be more crucial than oil in the coming years as water was becoming a scarce commodity due to climate change.

The president also highlighted ongoing efforts to bring electricity to the island.

Regarding the interconnection project for solving the electricity issue and proposing joint exploration of natural resources, Tatar expressed disappointment that the Greek Cypriot side had rejected the Turkish Cypriot side’s proposals.

He emphasized the existence of two sovereign peoples in Cyprus and suggested cooperation between the two states.

As part of his contacts in Istanbul, President Ersin Tatar also visited the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Speaking during the meeting with the Chairman of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Şekip Avdagiç, Tatar talked about his diplomatic efforts in Kyrgyzstan and stated that new opportunities had opened up for the TRNC.

Reiterating that despite all the injustices, the world now acknowledged the existence of two separate states and peoples in Cyprus.

He stressed the necessity of the TRNC being part of any agreement for a fair, permanent, and sustainable solution in Cyprus, stating that such an agreement would create a “win-win” situation.

Referring to President Erdoğan’s visit to Athens, Tatar pointed out that improving relations between Türkiye and Greece would benefit both countries and could have positive repercussions for Cyprus.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and resolving disputes in the Mediterranean region.

In the context of the Istanbul visit, a photo exhibition titled “President Tatar’s Photographs of Northern Cyprus on the 40th Anniversary” was opened.

President Tatar stated that the exhibition highlighted the rightful place that the TRNC deserves in the world.

He emphasized the importance of defending the country on its 40th anniversary, showcasing its beauty, and promoting its art and culture.

Tatar concluded that any attempt to isolate or impose economic sanctions on the Turkish Cypriot people is contrary to human rights.
