Tatar: Sustainable & earthquake resistant buildings needed in the TRNC

President Ersin Tatar attended the International Design and Architecture Conference organised by the Cyprus International University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture on Thursday.

Speaking at the conference, the president pointed to the importance of constructing sustainable buildings.

Addressing the International Design and Architecture Conference, President Tatar stated that architects and engineers should design houses, public buildings and roads in a sustainable way, by utilizing technology and in accordance with today’s standards.

Noting that solar energy is utilized in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), President Tatar stated that electricity brought to the TRNC via cable from Türkiye could pave the way for the island’s interconnectivity with Europe allowing an increase in solar energy production and a drop in prices.

Also touching upon the controls that are being carried out on public buildings following the devastating earthquake disaster in Türkiye, Tatar emphasized that it was necessary to be prepared for the future by constructing earthquake-resistant buildings.

Noting that foreign students from 144 countries are studying at universities in the TRNC, President Tatar stated that foreign investors are also coming to the country and this is having a positive effect on the economy.
