President Ersin Tatar noted that Motherland Türkiye supports the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots and is fully behind the two-state policy and stated that there should never be a return from the national policy after this stage.
He made the statement during a visit paid to him by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç, the President of the Atatürk Research Center in Türkiye.
President Ersin Tatar received Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç, the President of the Atatürk Research Center in Türkiye and his accompanying delegation.
In his speech during the meeting, President Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people have always carried their loyalty, faith, and love for Atatürk in their hearts, noting that the Turkish Cypriots closely followed Atatürk’s struggle and the War of Independence.
He mentioned that efforts had been made over the past 50 years for a federal-based agreement, but these had yielded no results, as the Greek Cypriots would not accept the equality of the Turkish Cypriots.
“What they desire is an agreement where the majority governs the minority,” said Tatar.
He also pointed out that after the 1974 Peace Operation, the Turkish Cypriot people became the owners of their state and affirmed that Türkiye’s presence in Cyprus is the guarantee of the island’s security, peace, and stability.
Referring to some opposition circles that still talk about federation, Tatar said, “These have been tried many times, and no result was achieved.”
He also stated that the Turkish Cypriot people are still being pressured with heavy embargoes, isolation, restrictions and obstacles, and said, “We are faced with a selfish mentality trying to force us to disappear within the framework of a federation. But we have never given up, and we will never give up; we will continue our struggle.”
Tatar also emphasized that Tükiye supports the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle and fully supports the two-state policy.
He stressed that there should be no turning back from the national policy at this stage.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kılınç, President of the Atatürk Research Center, stated that the Center organizes panels, symposiums and congresses in the TRNC, adding, “With the activities we have conducted, we are with you and support you.”
