The delegation of the National Defence Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly is holding a variety of contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

They embarked on their contacts this morning with a visit to the mausoleums of Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş.

They were then received by President Ersin Tatar at the Presidential Palace.

Members of the National Defence Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly headed by Hulusi Akar were received by President Ersin Tatar this morning.

Speaking during the visit the Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Hulusi Akar said that the members of the Commission closely followed the developments in the TRNC and that they are very happy with the developments.

Stating that their visit to the TRNC is important in terms of understanding the importance they attach to the TRNC, Akar pointed out that the Cyprus issue is a national cause.

“As you know, the Cyprus issue is our national cause, our national issue. We have no separation here. It is important for us to continue our work with our Cypriot brothers and sisters united and to do whatever we can for the security and welfare of our Cypriot brothers and sisters” said Akar.

Stating that they are very happy to see the developments in the TRNC, Akar said that many problems have been solved so far and added, “Hopefully, we will work at the highest level to ensure the welfare of our Cypriot brothers and sisters with the work to be done together from now on.”

Akar also conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and said that Erdoğan was also happy with the good news coming from the TRNC.

President Ersin Tatar for his part voiced his pleasure at the visit and thanked Akar for his years of service to both the national defence of Türkiye and the national defence of the TRNC.

“We have worked together for years, we have fought together, and now you are trying to give direction to Türkiye in relation to such a powerful issue in a separate office,” said Tatar and pointed to the achievements of Türkiye in the defence industry.

Pointing out that the Republic of Türkiye is a strong state in the Eastern Mediterranean and at the same time a guarantor state of the island of Cyprus, Tatar said that he explained this to foreign officials.

“I also expressed these to Maria Angela Holguin-Cuellar, the UN Secretary General’s Personal Representative on Cyprus, who visited me recently” said Tatar and added that the Turkish Cypriots are not alone they have Motherland Türkiye supporting them.

Noting that for the past three years they have been conducting a policy based on sovereign equality and equal international status with the full support of Türkiye, Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people have never been a minority in Cyprus.

“There may be a dispute in Cyprus, we are putting forward our good intentions to reach an agreement to resolve this dispute,” Tatar said, underlining that the agreement to be reached must protect the rights and laws of the Turkish Cypriot people and for this, it must be a state-based agreement.

“If there is no state-based agreement, they will destroy us under the single roof, especially in the EU and of course Türkiye will be left out. Therefore, our national interest is absolutely sovereign equality. The guarantor status of the Republic of Türkiye and the continued presence of the Turkish military here as a deterrent force is in the national interest of all of us” said Tatar.

Stating that the TRNC is the gateway of the Republic of Türkiye and other Turkish states to the Mediterranean, President Tatar said that if there is a different situation here, the whole Turkish world have a lot to lose.
