Tatar visits air base in Diyarbakır

President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday visited the 8th Tactical Air Force Command located in Diyarbakır.

Speaking during the visit, Tatar said that the Turkish air force had a special place in the hearts of Turkish Cypriots due to the martyr Cengiz Topel.

During his visit to the airbase, President Ersin Tatar had the chance to inspect the F-16 fighter jets stationed at the base which is used regularly to launch operations against terrorists.

Tatar also met with Air Commodore Gürtaç Kayapınar who presented him with a model F-16 as a souvenir.

Speaking during the visit, Tatar said that the Turkish air force had a special place in the hearts of Turkish Cypriots due to the martyr Cengiz Topel.

“We are grateful of the Turkish Air Force,” he said, reminding that Turkish jets flying above Cyprus brought joy to the Turkish Cypriot people and struck terror in the hearts of the Greek Cypriots.

Tatar added that the close proximity of Türkiye to Cyprus and the country’s superiority over the skies served as an important deterrent to enemies in the region and safeguarded peace on the island.
