President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday visited the Police Academy located in Gönyeli Yenikent where he had lunch with the officers and cadets receiving basic training.
The president also inspected training equipment and facilities used by the police.
Speaking during the visit, Tatar highlighted the importance of the police and fire department, pointing out that the cadets who pass their exams will serve society after they complete their training.
He also stressed that the country’s security forces ensured peace and security in the country.
Pointing out that the police force played an important role in every stage of Turkish Cypriot history, Tatar noted that the police force, first created during the island’s British rule, resumed its services under the various Turkish Cypriot administrations and finally under the roof of the TRNC.
Pointing out that the TRNC was an independent state with its institutions and organizations, Tatar said teams from the TRNC’s fire brigade and civil defence organization had actively participated in the search and rescue efforts in Türkiye following the February 6 earthquake disaster.
He said that the TRNC’s teams worked in a coordinated manner and successfully carried out their duties.
President Tatar also drew attention to the importance of intelligence, coordination, cooperation and information sharing in order to prevent crime as well as apprehend criminals and offenders.
He said that the Fire Brigade, which makes use of unmanned aerial vehicles and technology, was always ready for natural disasters as well as fires.
At the end of his speech, President Tatar wished the cadets success in their careers.
