President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday visited Ergün Vehbi, a former MP and veteran of the Erenköy Resistance, at his home.
According to a written statement issued by the Office of the President, the efforts made by Ergün Vehbi, who was a leading member of the group of Turkish Cypriot students studying in Türkiye who went to Erenköy to stage a resistance against Greek Cypriot attacks on Erenköy, had an important place in the history of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for independence.
Tatar said that Ergün Vehbi’s service, both as an MP and a fighter will never be forgotten.
The president also presented Ergün Vehbi with two books titled “The Man at the Top, the Guardian of Freedom and Democracy” and “A New Perspective on the Cyprus issue with Ersin Tatar.”
Ergün Vehbi for his part said he was honoured by President Tatar’s visit and presented him the book “Code name Yavuz: Ergün Vehbi” written by Hasibe Şahoğlu.
