President Ersin Tatar and first lady Sibel Tatar cast their votes on Sunday at the Şehit Tuncer Primary School in Lefkoşa.

Speaking to the army of reporters waiting outside, President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people had exerted great efforts and a struggle despite the conditions set by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am calling on the public to vote as this is an important election,” he said.

Tatar also touched upon the issue of thousands of voters living abroad who are unable to vote.

“We have a state here in Cyprus. We are waging a struggle to ensure a safer, more secure future for the Turkish Cypriot people. For a country where they can govern under their own sovereignty,” he said.

Tatar concluded by thanking everyone for carrying out a cordial election process and wished success to all those running.

Meanwhile, former presidents Mehmet Ali Talat, Derviş Eroğlu and Mustafa Akıncı also cast their votes on Sunday morning.

All wished the success of the elections.
