President Ersin Tatar is in the UK capital London this week where he will hold a variety of talks.

Tatar met with Nesil Çalışkan, the first Turkish Cypriot to be elected as a Member of the British Parliament.

President Tatar shared a photo taken with Çalışkan via his social media account.

He also met with the officials of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CTCC UK) and some civil society representatives on Monday as part of his London visits.

President Ersin Tatar met with officials from the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce in the UK at the TRNC London Representative Office.

This meeting was attended by London Representative Çimen Keskin, President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce in the UK Muhammet Yaşarata and some civil society representatives.

President Tatar stated that there are approximately 350,000 Turkish Cypriots living in the UK and that they are successful in different areas of life.

He also expressed the importance of maintaining strong ties between Turkish Cypriots living abroad and the TRNC and encouraging investments in our country.

Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots contribute to the socio-economic structure of the UK and are successful in various professions, while preserving their cultural heritage and ties with the TRNC.

President Tatar stated that within the framework of his visit to the UK, he will meet with British Parliamentarians, give interviews to various media organizations and bring the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot people to the agenda.

Referring to the Cyprus problem, President Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people want sustainable peace and stability on the island.

He said that negotiations for a federal-based solution have been conducted for more than half a century, however, the Greek Cypriot side has rejected at least 15 solution plans.

“It is time for the international community and the UK, as one of the guarantor countries, to take a more balanced approach to Cyprus,” said Tatar.

“My vision, which has the full support of Türkiye, is for a solution based on our sovereign equality and equal international status. Federal-based negotiations are exhausted. A sustainable and realistic solution can only be based on two states existing in cooperative relations,” said Tatar.

Emphasizing that the Turkish Cypriot side will not step back from the two-state vision, President Tatar said, “The TRNC has geostrategic importance in the Eastern Mediterranean and is vital for the security of the Republic of Türkiye.”

He emphasized that the inhumane isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people has a negative impact on people’s lives.

“The international community should review the injustices faced by the Turkish Cypriot people. We are taking a constructive stance for the ‘3D’s’, which means direct flights, direct trade and the start of direct contacts,” said Tatar.
