President Ersin Tatar on Thursday welcomed the statement issued at the end of the Turkish National Security Council, stating that it had given the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus further strength.
President Ersin Tatar on Thursday issued a written statement expressing his happiness over the commitments made on Cyprus by the Turkish National Security Council (TNSC).
Issuing a written statement, Tatar said that Türkiye’s security council had drawn attention to the double-standards and biased attitude of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) regarding the construction of the Yığitler-Pile road, which was aimed at addressing a humanitarian need for Turkish Cypriot residents of the mixed village of Pile..
“UNFICYP’s attitude and operations in the area are incompatible with the principle of neutrality and the understanding of peacekeeping,” Tatar said.
He said these incidents clearly showed that it is essential that the operations of UNFICYP in the northern part of the island must be defined and determined by an agreement to be signed with TRNC authorities.
“I would like to remind once again that peace and tranquillity was established in Cyprus thanks to the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation which was carried out by Türkiye on the basis of its rights stemming from international agreements and treaties,” he said, adding that the Turkish Cypriot people owed their freedom and security thanks to the deterrence provided by motherland Türkiye and the Turkish Armed Forces.
