President Ersin Tatar wrapped up his contacts in Istanbul on Thursday returning to the island later in the evening.

President Ersin Tatar on Thursday visited the facilities of the Turkuvaz Media Group in Eyüp Sultan as part of his Istanbul contacts.

There, Tatar gave interviews to Sabah newspaper and Daily Sabah, and was host to live news programmes on A Haber and A News which broadcasts in English, answering questions regarding the Cyprus issue, recent developments in the region, relations with Türkiye, and many other topics.

President Ersin Tatar later attended a special session titled “Wise People” organized within the framework of the 27th Eurasian Economic Summit by the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation.

Speaking there, Tatar expressed his wish for an end to all wars, including Gaza, and crimes against humanity worldwide, and wished for a future of peace and tranquillity.

Highlighting the need for peace and tranquillity in the world, Tatar pointed out that every country has its own problems, and indicated the difficulties faced by the TRNC.

Providing a brief summary of the Cyprus issue, Tatar explained that the Turkish Cypriot people, as co-founders, were forcibly expelled from the 1960 Republic of Cyprus and subjected to attacks by Greek Cypriots for many years before Türkiye’s timely intervention in 1974.

He added that Turkish Cypriots had gained independence, freedom, and sovereignty since then.

Despite being an unrecognized country under embargoes today, Tatar stated that the TRNC continues its development and has established itself as a strong state in its region.

President Tatar said that despite decades of negotiations for a federal settlement, no results had been achieved, which had prompted the Turkish Cypriot side to a policy based on a two-state solution.

He noted that the TRNC has become an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) during this process.

Tatar emphasized that there are two states in Cyprus and explained that the TRNC, with the support of the Republic of Türkiye, is working to increase its visibility in the international arena, developing in all areas and continuing its development.

Despite voting “yes” to the Annan Plan, Tatar pointed out that the Greek Cypriots who had voted “no” were unilaterally admitted to the EU while the Turkish Cypriot people were left under embargoes.
