TC-GC parties meet at Ledra Palace

Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties participating in the bi-communal dialogue activities organized by the Slovakian Embassy held their routine monthly meeting on Monday.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, it was noted that there was a consensus on promoting the participation of women and youth in peace processes.

Representatives of several Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties came together at the Ledra Palace hotel on Monday as part of an ongoing bicommunal dialogue held under the auspices of the Embassy of Slovakia to South Cyprus.

During the meeting hosted by the Greek Cypriot Democratic Rally Party (DISY) in South Cyprus, discussions focused on “what can be done to promote peace and reconciliation among youth and women through the active participation of political parties in peace activities and negotiations”

In the joint statement read out by Slovak Ambassador Martin Bezek, it was stated that the parties had reached an agreement on nine topics, which included “inclusive representation,” “support for initiatives led by women,” “advocacy for women’s rights,” “gender-sensitive policies,” “promotion of intercommunal dialogue,” “media and communication,” “monitoring and evaluation,” “cultural exchange programs,” and “participation and empowerment.”

It was also announced that the next meeting of the parties, with the participation of UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus Colin Stewart, will take place on October 26.
