The Turkish Historical Society has digitally transferred 360,000 documents related to the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence.

The archived documents are accessible at the society’s library.

Researchers will now be able to access thousands of historical documents that belong to figures such as Osman Örek, Necati Özkan, İsmail Bozkurt and Faiz Kaymak.

The Turkish Historical Society has launched a project to digitally transfer important historical documents and photographs dating back to the struggle years.

Within this framework, documents belonging to figures such as  former Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Osman Örek, Turkish Cypriot leaders Necati Özkan, TMT fighter, MP, minister and statesman İsmail Bozkurt as well as Faiz Kaymak who served as head of the Cyprus Turkish Institutions Federation between 1949-1957 are now accessible digitally at the society’s library.

The head of the society Prof. Dr. Birol Çetin said that the project has been going on for the past two years and that they have so far transferred 360,000 documents.

“We are also preparing to shoot a documentary, a series of interviews with 70 living members of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence. We plan to complete the documentary within a year,” he added.
