The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre commemorated the Topçuköy Martyrs who lost their lives during the Peace Operation.

Töre, also emphasized that there will be no federal-based agreement in Cyprus after this time.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a message to commemorate the 9 Turkish Cypriots from Topçuköy village who were martyred during the 1974 Peace Operation.

In his message Töre said, “If we have a state on which we can live freely today, we owe this to our martyrs who sacrificed their lives without a thought for the protection of their homeland and for the Turkish Cypriots to continue their existence on the island.”

Noting that the importance of motherland Türkiye standing by the Turkish Cypriots is better understood with every passing day, Töre said that the Turkish Peace Operation carried out in 1974 was justified as it put an end to the massacres carried out by the fascist Greek Cypriots on the island.

“It should be well known that the peace that has always been desired on the island of Cyprus was realized after the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot fighters and the arrival of Turkish Forces on the island.  It is obvious that a federal-based agreement is out of the question in Cyprus at this time. The agreement to be made must be with a structure based on sovereign equality,” concluded Töre in his message.
